Marni Rothman
Berkeley, CA
Northern California artist creating bold, colorful, contemporary work exploring the connections between humans, nature, and the environment.
MessageThis vivid, abstracted piece draws inspiration from the Hebrew Bible’s vision of the burning bush—flames that blaze but do not consume. In moody tones of violet and blue, the colors evoke the last glow of the setting sun in the evening sky. The shapes could be masses of tall grasses, reeds or perhaps *l'bat ha-eish* [Hebrew: flame of fire]. The fiery energy is held in tension with a sense of stillness, resilience, and renewal. It is a meditation on sacred endurance: something can be touched by fire and remain whole.
