The Rialto Theatre on Route 66 in South Pasadena, CA was built in 1924 and designed in a Spanish Baroque style. Prior to the premier movie, customers were entertained with Vaudeville acts until the 1930's when the theatre suffered a backstage fire and unfortunately live theatre never returned.
By the 1960’s the theatre was showing more niche movies and was taken over by the Landmark chain in 1976.
In the 70's and 80's the Rialto began to host some concerts and soon began to run more mainstream movies, in the hopes of drawing more customers.
The Rialto for many years showed movies occasionally and was one of the longest running Rocky Horror Picture Shows (went on three decades)
The Rialto is reported to be haunted by a cat and other paranormal events.
Now this historic theater has now been totally renovated and is run and used by a church.
