The King Eddy Saloon at the corner of 5th and Los Angeles Street is one of the oldest bars still in operation in downtown Los Angeles. Sitting in part of the King Edward Hotel at 5th & Los Angeles the King Eddy got it's start as a high class bar in 1906. In 1933 during prohibition the King Eddy became a underground speakeasy and eventually as the years went by in the later 20th century in was known as the closest downtown bar to Skid Row and it still holds that distinction. It's also notable for being a favorite dive bar for writer Charles Bukowski when he trolled around drinking in downtown LA
