Mark A. O'Neil
Newport, NH
I paint nature deconstructed, blurring the boundary between the real and the abstract.
MessageAbout
Mark, born in 1961 in the midwest, is a printmaker living in Newport NH who recently has returned to his art roots. His education in Art History, Printmaking, Computer Graphics and a misspent youth heavily influences his Art. He combines technology, pre-press and hand printing techniques, and non-traditional halftone and separation methods to create visually striking prints. His nonrepresentational prints influenced by nature’s intricate patterns are charged with a painterly surface generated by careful selection and composition of deconstructed photographic imagery, juxtaposition of colors, and ink transparency.
Mark believes art is to be experienced personally and interpreted uniquely. His artistic endeavors seek to facilitate introspection and unveil the inherent beauty of the natural world without explicitly depicting it. His art is a celebration of form and color, consciously avoiding direct socio-political statement, and instead embracing an ode to a shared and universal ethos.
Statement
The spiritual relationship between non-objective art and nature is central to my practice. By abstracting natural forms into nonrepresentational patterns and forms, I aim to evoke the sense of interconnectedness and mystery many find in the natural world. Non-objective art allows for a direct, personal response transcending specific imagery, offering a space where viewers can experience wonder, reflection, and a quiet reverence for the unseen rhythms of life.
