Vernal Equinox marks the first day of astronomical spring. A Honey Locust tree represents life, growth and passage of time. The circle hints at birth, fertility, mother earth, while the network of cracks speak to randomness, chaos, drought, ageing and decay.
The juxtaposition of the tree floating above the circle evokes the themes of the individual pieces with the additional themes of hope, faith and renewal.
Crackle Circle interacts with daytime light, providing a slowly changing view and shadow display indicating a passage of time or seasons, if you will. The addition of LED based lighting, provides a dynamic feel for evening viewing, dramatically radiating the stark iconic nature of the design.
A meditative manual tracing of the photographed tree branches, iconifies it's natural form.
A three-inch circle of crackle paint, on drying creates an organic network of fine cracks, also traced and enlarged forms the base of the light box Crackle Circle.
