This is a portrait of Scott Sheffield, an oil company CEO, at Kellogg-Weaver Dunes Scientific and Natural Area (SNA). An SNA is land that is protected because it includes an ecosystem that is threatened or holds a rare plant community. Mr Sheffield's suit coat is made of a petroleum-based tar that will eventually deteriorate the painting - much like Mr. Sheffield's decisions are deteriorating the real natural environment in the painting.
