The Great mother archetype is one of the most universally recognized archetypes. Through history she is known as Mary, Eve, Gaia, etc. She represents the idealized version of motherhood/nature.
Represented in this image is Mother Earth, the driving force behind all creation. In her womb she holds all the key to all that is. The lines that swirl around the female form is indicative of the symbiotic relationship all of life has with her. She nurture and sustain us. We must respect and protect her.
Our relationship to this archetypes is seen by how we treat all that is related to the earth and nature. In male dominated societies, the driving force is to gain power with little regards to her well being. In female dominated society in which there is a partnership with mother/nature there is an attitude of giving back as well as taking what she has to offer as a gift. She is respected and worshiped.
