Collection: Thresholds: POETIC PORTALS
What if thresholds change how you perceive the world? Thresholds mark the beginning or entry point into a new realm. They also mark “an intensity that must be exceeded to cause a certain reaction”. What if architectural thresholds were designed this way? For example, what if a threshold was so beautiful that it prepared you optimally to experience what was on the other side. In this way, a threshold is like a bridge that uplevels your experience, helping you to set an intention and to enter a proactive “ready-state” so you can optimally process, participate, and perform. Such a threshold acts as a rocket launch countdown, where one is primed for an ideal experience.
In this THRESHOLDS drawing collection, such portals are imagined as spaces that prepare one for the day, an event, or even an idea. With each drawing, this series asks: What can a threshold become? And what can you become after passing through a threshold?
Created using only black ink, each THRESHOLDS drawing imagines a unique portal that inspires your imagination and ignites your curiosity about how it was formed, why it is beautiful, and where it leads. As you engage with each THRESHOLDS drawing, ask yourself: By experiencing this portal, what am I preparing to become.
