After spending nearly 40 years in the field of accountancy, Margo Lehman made a bold choice to reinvent herself as an artist in 2012. A lifelong doodler and crafter, she had always felt an affinity for the art world, but never dared to try her hand at fine art. She is currently studying with Glen Kessler at The Compass Atelier.
Margo’s work, predominantly oil, watercolor and wool, spans in size from tiny two-inch square miniatures to much larger works. Most depict a variety of subjects rooted in the natural world, but there are portraits, figures and even some abstract works to be found in her portfolio as well. In her own painterly, sometimes impressionist style, she uses art to bridge the perceived gap between science and spirituality, for herself, the viewer. As a practicing Quaker, she looks for the presence of light in everything, using contrasting moody, dark tones to draw attention to the source of light in the painted scene.
A lifelong native of Sandy Spring, MD, Margo has also travelled throughout the United States and abroad to France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Her work has been exhibited and won awards in both juried and invitational shows, including a solo show in Sandy Spring in 2018. Two of her watercolors, The Source II and The Last Days of Summer, have been published in pamphlets by the Sandy Spring Museum and Pendle Hill Study Center respectively.
