The Inanna paintings were a revelation. In the making of them, Margaret was able to put words to a five-year-long "living death" experience where all aspects of her ego were brought into question. She simultaneously found herself in the story of Inanna's descent into the Underworld, something neither doctors nor therapists could identify; it was this discovery of where she was that allowed her to find a way through the pain and grief of this ego death, opening her up to rise into a new version of "self." Often we can't find where we're going if we don't know where we are.
