MessageMargaret is a multi-passionate artist. While she still loves the camera, she continues to grow as an artist in other directions, like mixed media painting, botanical illustration, and painting. She spent many years understanding, writing, painting, and reflecting on her life experience. Margaret’s work is both the foundation and the spark for Oprah’s book club pick and New York Times Bestselling book Hidden Valley Road. She spent five years painting with Bernie Marek, one of the founders of the art therapy program at Naropa, where she learned to incorporate meditation into her abstract work. Margaret also spent five years studying botanical illustration at the Denver Botanic Gardens. As she continues working in multiple mediums, she is currently pushing the boundaries between botanicals and abstraction.
Statement
Painting is a calling to create something that feels compelling. With this expression comes an opportunity to grow simply by following an idea or laying down a color, thereby creating beauty by investigating what speaks to me. It's very simple.
