Artist: Willem Alexander Knip (Dutch, 1883-1967)

Willem Knip was born in Amsterdam in 1883. He studied at the art school in Amsterdam and took painting lessons in Haarlem from J.J.C. Lebeau. Knip lived in Amsterdam and close surrounding areas for most of his life but he regularly worked in France, Italy, and Spain. He is known for painting landscapes, harbors, and town scenes.
He won the St. Lucasprize in 1942 and the Arti-medaille in 1953. Most of his worked are currently in the possession of the Rijkscollectie, Stedlijk Van Abbe museum, Eindhoven, and the Singer Museum in Laren. Knip died in Blaricum Holland in 1967.
