Artist: Tim Tyler
Timothy Tyler began his career as an artist when, at the age of fourteen, he received his first painting commission. At sixteen, an art gallery owner began to exhibit his paintings. By the age of twenty, a Scottsdale gallery recognized the promise this young artist held and began showing his work. That same year, he won Best of Show in a national juried exhibition.
Tyler has never limited himself regarding subject matter; yet a strong sense of romance, realism and tradition is found in every work. Timothy's sons often accompany him on his hikes through woods and along rivers, winding creeks and aspen groves. When such a scene is found, he sets up his French easel and begins to paint, sometimes using his family as models.
He has sketched trail rides, Civil War re-enactments, and draft horse logging during his travels. These trips produce drawings and color sketches he uses as reference for larger works completed in his studio. He teaches occasionally.
For other studio works, Tyler searches extensively for still-life objects, which have ranged from saddles and tack which friends loan, to daisies paired with a Russian samovar.
Before beginning a piece, he thoroughly researches his subjects to lend the painting accuracy and continuity. This attention to detail is evident in the very craftsmanship of his work. Art of the West magazine called him "Master of Color and Light." The museums, corporations, and private collectors of his work worldwide also refer to "the sense of light" in his paintings.
An artist must prepossess a given talent. Yet, years of training and practice are required to bring that talent to a place where others can recognize it. The result of his craftsmanship has been a steadily growing recognition of his place as an important American artist. He was awarded full signature membership into the Oil Painters of America (OPA) in 1993, and is one of 37 artists included in the Living Master's Museum in the Art Renewal Center's online museum devoted to realist art.
Tim has galleries representing his work in various cities. American Express, Goodyear, and Century 21 corporations own his work. He exhibited at the Gilcrease Museum November 2000 for the third consecutive year. Private collectors are worldwide, having principally purchased through his galleries.
Tim's The Deconstructionist was the first painting by a living artist to break into top ten most popular paintings at Art Renewal Center.
He was accepted to exhibit at American Artist Professional League - Salmagundi Club 2014
In 2014, Happy Homemaker garnered seven awards to date including; "Grand Prize Allied Artists of America, Special Exhibition", which included elected membership, "NOAPS online contest; Best of Show", Oil Painters of America National Exhibition; "Most Original Award of Excellence" and "Viewer's Choice" where it was purchased for $18,000.
He's also a member of the Portrait Society of America and is an out of state member of the California Art Club.
