Lynne Mizera
Creston, BC
A self-taught, mixed media artist painting the elusive female identity in her own unique, abstracted style and adding colour to the world one painting at a time
MessageLynne Mizera, a distinguished artist originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, carries the vibrant cultural richness of her birthplace into every stroke of her paintbrush. Raised in a creative household with an artist mother, Lynne's childhood was steeped in art, surrounded by artists, and tinged with the unmistakable scent of turpentine. This nurturing environment instilled in her a unique lens through which she sees the world, a perspective that would eventually blossom into her distinctive artistic voice.
Though inherently creative throughout her life, it wasn't until she reached the age of 50 that Lynne gave herself permission to fully embrace painting. The journey to her artistic awakening was punctuated by years of balancing life as a single mother and a career in the corporate oil and gas industry. Despite the demanding nature of her corporate role, Lynne always carved out time for her creative endeavors, dabbling in various forms of artistic expression. The pivotal shift came when she stepped away from the corporate realm, devoting her energy wholly to her art—a decision that allowed her creativity to flourish.
A largely self-taught artist, Lynne's education in art comprises high school classes and a myriad of online courses and books. Her technique is a testament to her innovative spirit. Beginning with a layer of collage papers crafted through a monoprinting technique, she creates textured canvases that become the foundation of her work. Through washes and glazes of acrylic paints and inks, she meticulously pulls out details and pushes back areas, building layers that impart an unrivaled depth and vibrancy to her pieces.
Lynne draws profound inspiration from the interplay of color and simple shapes, seeking to capture the fleeting essence of her subjects rather than mere likeness. This philosophy is particularly evident in her portraits of female faces, through which she strives to reveal the hidden emotions and enigmatic qualities beneath the surface. Her creative process transforms personal journaling pages into richly colored collage papers that form the bones of her compositions. Vibrant color glazes elevate these works, and intricate painted elements add layers of meaning and texture.
The uniqueness of Lynne's art lies in its ability to evoke happiness through the use of bold hues and clean lines, while her portraits captivate viewers with their elusive depth. Her faces beckon observers to peer into their eyes, to uncover the stories and sentiments veiled within. This engagement with the viewer is a hallmark of her work, inviting introspection and connection.
Influenced by artistic luminaries such as Emily Carr, the Canadian Group of Seven, Picasso, and Modigliani, Lynne channels their spirits while forging her own path. An active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the Creston Valley Art Council, she remains deeply connected to the artistic community. Her artwork, a celebration of life's colors and textures, has drawn acclaim for its joyous vibrancy and emotional resonance.
Statement
I have always seen the world differently from most and I draw profound inspiration from the interplay of color and simple shapes. I seek to capture the fleeting essence of a subject, the emotion behind the object or person, rather than the mere likeness. I like to create pieces rich in texture with many translucent layers that allow you to see through and into my paintings. My process of starting with personal journaling pages, which I turn into richly colored collage papers, form the bones of my compositions. I then build up the layers using the application of vibrant color glazes which takes my work to the next level, and then by pulling out more details with paint and adding textures I create even more depth to my painting. My ultimate desire for my art is to share my unique vision of the world with others, and to see my creations
