Statement

My work celebrates my passion for the landscape and the natural world.

Using a wide range of mediums and techniques – from oil painting to calligraphy to printmaking – I create intricate mixed-media works that celebrate colour, form, texture and pattern. I am constantly experimenting – crossing boundaries, breaking rules, mixing it up.

Whether painting or collage, my works comprise many layers, and combine traditional skills with a contemporary approach, each unique piece exploring the effects of light on natural forms. My work springs from a deep appreciation and understanding of the natural world, studied as an artist, photographer, former scientist and creative writer.

Being in the wild, whatever the weather, allows me to absorb the essence of a place. Rather than representational copying, I aim to depict the feeling of what it is like in that place at that particular moment in time.

Although my work is always about landscape (whether the external view or the internal soul), landscape is never just a surface. I invite the viewer to see their own worlds within worlds in my pieces, bringing their own history, their own emotions to complete the work.

My work is in private and public collections in Ireland, USA, UK, Australia and Europe.
