Statement
I use my practice to explore the relationships between people, nature, and the environment. My work is rooted in a lifelong passion for the natural world, beginning with early experiences exploring the outdoors in the Upper Midwest. These formative moments sparked a lasting fascination with wildlife and the environment, which continues to inform my artistic practice. Although I now reside in Los Angeles—a major urban landscape—my interest in animals, environmental concerns, and the beauty of nature persists. I approach art-making as a proactive of reflection and inquiry, employing wildlife imagery and various environments to examine the ecosystems we inhabit and to invite viewers to engage with my work on both aesthetic and intellectual levels.
My work currently encompasses several themes: Urban Wildlife, Animal Reserve, Divine Nature, and place-based projects. These themes emphasize exploration, interpretation, adaptation, and resilience of wildlife within diverse habitats. I aim to challenge human perceptions of nature, highlighting the ongoing—and often devastating—impact of human activity and climate change on species and habitats. Ultimately, my art serves as both a personal and collective reflection on our interconnectedness with the environment, aiming to inspire awareness, empathy, and a deeper commitment to preservation and change.
