MessageRealist Painter
Lorelei Sowa, a resident of Connecticut and Florida, is a contemporary realist painter who works almost exclusively from life. She enjoys looking at shapes in both form and color, as well as light and shadow. Lorelei, who had drawn and painted throughout her teenage years, attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis on oil painting. While raising a family, she immersed herself in the history of art, volunteering as a docent at the Wadsworth Museum of Art in Hartford, Connecticut. In 2020, Lorelei reconnected to applied art making and sought additional guidance through courses and workshops offered through the Lyme Art Academy and The Lyme Art Association. She is currently fully immersed in the plein air painting process. She has had the privilege of attending several workshops with influential teachers, including Zufar Bibkov, Timothy P. Wilson, Patrick Okrasinki, Mark Boedges, and Peter Van Dyke, as well as still life painting with Elieen Eder. She also honed her figure drawing and painting techniques with Chealea Bard and Thomas LaPine.
She is grateful to enjoy the challenge, joy, and fulfillment that painting brings.
Lorelei has begun competing in local shows, including those hosted by the Guilford Art Association, Madison Art Association, Lyme Art Association, and Milford Arts Council. She was an award winner in the Lyme Art Academy for her landscape paintings titled "Trade Winds."
