I am an abstract artist in Chicago and have been a creative for over thirty years in a variety of mediums. Acrylic and oil paints are my preferred mediums.
MessageI have lived and worked in the Bronzeville community for over forty years and began my art career here. Originally from Birmingham Ala. my family moved to Chicago in the early sixties. After graduating from high school, I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus where I studied Education. My interest in art came later when I attended Ray Vogue College of Design where I studied Visual Merchandising. I then worked for in the retail Industry designing window displays for women's clothing stores throughout Chicago including Marshall Fields. A few years later I studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and completed several courses with University of Chicago Curatorial program in collaboration with the Hyde Park Art Center.
I found my voice as an artist attending a class with Dr. Nancy Hillis and her abstract painting process.
Statement
In my work color, shape, form, movement, and contrast are the key elements. I try to explore the process of transformation inviting the viewer to allow the painting to arouse a different way of seeing and being. Through my art I hope to give the audience an experience there are no words for.
