Lisette Cedeno studied at the Art Institute of Boston and earned her BFA from the New World School of the Arts. She is also an alumnus of Dreyfoos School of the Arts High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. With over 25 years of experience, Lisette has honed her skills in painting, mixed media, fibers, ceramics, and collaborative murals throughout South Florida.
Following her recent studies at Penland School of Crafts, she developed a unique body of ceramic work that explores the boundaries between functional and fine art. Her collection, The Elegant Blooms Collection, investigates the geometric patterns of decorative motifs and simplified forms found in nature. These delicate yet bold structures reflect the interplay of growth and decay, capturing nature’s struggle for survival. Each piece serves as a vessel, blending form and function in a harmonious dialogue.
Statement
This collection of ceramic art transforms clay into expressive forms that celebrate the intricate textures and structures of botanical life. Through the medium of clay, I explore how raw concepts can evolve into tangible expressions of both beauty and function. By employing various hand-building techniques, I allow nature’s textures and forms to unfold into pieces of functional art.
The "Elegant Blooms" featured in my work delve into the geometric patterns of decorative motifs alongside simplified organic forms drawn from nature's botanical structures. These elements reflect the delicate yet bold essence of nature—simultaneously thriving and in decay, they dance with the struggle for survival. The interplay of these shapes and patterns culminates in vessels that harmonize form and function, inviting viewers to engage with the beauty and resilience of the natural world.
