The design is inspired by the Spotted Lantern Fly, an invasive species that has been stressing and killing plants. The beauty of their design distracts from the damage that they cause. The piece challenges viewers to consider the consequences of willful ignorance in the face of beauty; and the fragility of the bubble within which many walk through life.
