Lisa Purrington
To quote Edward Hopper, " If I could say it in words, there'd be no reason to paint."
MessageLisa Purrington uses painting as a non-verbal expression of life's stories. Born and raised in Madagascar, Lisa brings the rich colors of the tropics and her unique experience to her art. As a creative person all her life, art and painting was a natural progression. Recognizing that painting allowed her to express so much more than words is what inspires her.
Lisa is a mostly self-taught abstract artist living in Dallas, Texas. She has exhibited in local spaces and received honorable mentions in the PAA125 Juried Exhibition and the Irving Arts Center Members Exhibition.
Statement
From the blues of my childhood living on a peninsula in the Indian Ocean to the schoolbus yellow painted on my living room walls, deep rich colors have been part of my life. I create bright, colorful paintings with layers of texture reminiscent of life and our personal histories.
Our life stories are full of emotions and experiences. Painting allows me to explore and express my stories in ways words cannot. I use colors. marks and textures in multiple layers to create a sense of depth and complexity that invites the viewer to reflect on their own life experiences.
