Biography
A classically trained artist, Lisa earned degrees in fine art and art education at Keystone College and Kutztown University. Although her studio experience at the time focused on oil painting, she discovered the pastel medium years later and has made this her medium of choice for her current work. She continues to find inspiration for her work through travel and the simple things that exist in everyday life.
An award-winning artist, Lisa is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and also holds signature memberships in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, the Connecticut Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of New Jersey. She is a member of the Salmagundi Club of New York and the American Artists Professional League. Her work is held in private and corporate collections and has been shown in local and international juried exhibitions as well as non-juried invitational shows.
Statement
It is my intention to create work that allows us to stay connected with the places we see and move through everyday. Architecture in our environment, throughout our cities and rural landscapes, incorporates history, culture, and purpose for each of us.
The dramatic play of light and shadow cast on a building façade, or the late afternoon sun that presents itself along a tree-lined street can transform something seemingly ordinary, into a uniquely memorable experience.
My paintings allow people the opportunity to identify with or reflect upon a moment in time; of places familiar, or that no longer exist, thus eliciting an emotional response. My style is representational yet painterly, with vibrant, exaggerated color making way for light and shadow to reveal the character behind the subject matter.
Sometimes, this sense of place expands to include people interacting in their environment, engaging in everyday life in the places they find meaningful. I’d like to think that perhaps they are enjoying their own journey along the way.
