The sky island that is the Davis Mountains in Far West Texas is stunning from the flat grasslands, breathtaking when viewed from on high. Clouds build and float over the mountains creating irregular patterns of golden light and mysterious shadow. Much of this vast, high desert landscape is still untouched by civilization, so when standing on a mountain looking across the narrow range, it's impossible not to sense the heartbeats of those few privileged to stand there before you, taking in the view as an ocean of tall, golden grass whispers back to the wind. In the center of this lofty skyline, Mount Livermore's bare rock tip, "Old Baldy" shimmers above all the others, offering a familiar welcome to this remote frontier.
