This historic spring that gave Big Spring, Texas its name was a landmark to explorers, Native Americans and pioneer settlers. Today, thanks to a nudge to nature by my landscape architect brother Kelly Cook, lush native vegetation and wildlife again surround the spring, a precious oasis in dry West Texas. We visited this serene spot at sunset, and the distant thunderstorm only added to the mystique of water in a semi-arid land.
