We encountered these old rock steps in Texas Hill Country. Who else has climbed this shaded path draped in grapevines and ivy? Some of my earliest painting subjects were of dense forest like this one, so it was fun to revisit summer in the woods in watercolor here, always aware of the life whispering from each square inch of foliage.
Watercolor gives this underbrush the transparent depths of mystery, the sense of discovery a walk in deep woods offers us. Hang this scene on your wall, and you can take a walk thru nature whenever you need a moment of serenity.
