The River Road along the Rio Grande between Lajitas and Presidio is known for its majestic scenery, but anyone who explored the old movie set between the river and nearby Contrabando Trail in Big Bend Ranch State Park likely experienced the deep sense of peaceful solitude the cluster of remarkably authentic old structures offered the visitor. The ruins of this adobe church invited entry, sanctuary. Inside, the simple room offered shade and silence within as the sun baked the desert outside the open door. Successive flooding finally damaged the movie set, and this old adobe beyond repair, but its solitary setting along the big river remains.
I did this pencil drawing on lovely, heavily textured handmade watercolor paper to add to the vintage feel
