Above our mountainside home, volcanic rocks colored with patinas from the ages rise into the Texas sky. This imposing rock formation offers nesting raptors a vantage point from which to survey the high desert, just as it gave Native Americans a sheltered watchtower. I did most of this piece on location, but had to finish it in the studio after those feathery clouds became a giant thunderhead spewing lightning across these cliffs.
