If trees could sing, this one would be belting out verses of "Oh What A Beautiful Morning..." I painted this as the sun rose from behind the mountain, spraying light across pinon bark and pine needles. Trees, despite popular belief, are not rooted in the earth but pirouette in air filled with songs of wind and sun. Of course they can sing.
I did this small pastel study right outside my door, held the painting as I stood there, working on it. The box of pastel sticks was at my feet, so sometimes I'd have two or three sticks in my hand to save time. You can't be timid about capturing sunlight.
