Roadrunners are iconic symbols of the desert southwest, and seeing one brings good luck. (Honestly! It does!) Fondly known locally as a "paisano" ("countryman" or "native guy") the large, skinny bird seems to prefer hiking to flight. This one curiously watched us picnic in the Chihuahuan Desert of Big Bend National Park.
I love to paint birds in watercolor, a flighty medium that renders feathers with fragile nuances of color.
