Ocotillo is a desert plant that doesn't live up to expectations. When it blooms, bright red tubular flowers adorn the tips of tall, skinny stalks lined with rose-sharp thorns. Ten to twenty foot tall plants in full bloom makes ocotillo a favorite, and when backdropped by the blues of the Chisos, sure to bring a smile.
