This deep cirque canyon in Big Bend National Park is officially known as "Burro Mesa PourOff", but Jim and I will always think of it as "shadow canyon", a deep and mysterious watershed that beckons you in with its siren song of color leading into its dark folds. For this large painting, we arrived in the dark, then waited for the sun to drench the rocks and grass below in dawn's first light.
