After a 30 year career in graphic design, I found an avenue into painting. Thru the abstraction of figures, and landscapes and simple geometry.
MessageMy 30 year graphic design career and experience painting five years in merge, as I refine my inner voice through abstraction and exploration of figures and shapes and the play in between.
Inspired by Conrad Marca-Relli, and Nicolas de Stael, are my biggest inspirations. De Stael simple shapes delivered a bold style in both landscape and figurative. Marca-Relli takes collage shapes to tell his stories of hidden figures and pure abstraction in a scale that hadn’t been done before. Both of these men have helped me define how I want to approach my work. Shapes woven together to tell the story in each painting.
I’ve studied under contemporaries, Jerry McLaughlin, Rebecca Crowell, Melinda Cootsana and Andrew Faulkner whose influences I greatly admire and respect.
Natural beauty in Northern California and the daily human condition inspire me. Weaving the study of both through practice into paint is my greatest challenge and dance.
I currently work in oil and cold wax medium and exploring acrylic.

Statement
I started painting 5.5 years ago after some time trying different mediums and looking for something that excited me. Eventually taking a workshop in oil and cold wax and literally falling in love with the medium. It was exciting and just knew I wanted to paint in that way. My painting took on many shapes, including figurative work and imaginary landscapes. Ultimately my goal was to find a way to continue to abstract a further. Now my figurative and landscape pieces are the abstraction I hope to continue to develop deeper. Discovering my love of the properties of shapes, lines surfaces, spatial relationships and interactions is really exciting to me. I'm excited about finding my way into these painting by the sense of being seen, not seen, memories of places I been or have been in my mind. Thee is something about the 'finding' in the work, I will continue to explore.
