Picasso. In all his glory. This is the image that started it all for me with regard to painting the wild ones. Just look at his face. Look at the character in that face. Picasso is thirty years old. He has lived his life in the wilds of Northern Colorado's Sand Wash Basin. Once a leading band stallion, with his own family, he is now more isolated. He spends time with some of the bachelor stallions, but spends time alone as well. He made it through the winter of 2017. He was spotted in March of 2018. He is the icon of the Basin. Age comes. Things change. But for me, Picasso will always be THE ICON of the Sand Wash Basin. The original of this painting hangs in my living room, because this is one I will always keep. A HUGE thank you to John Wagner, who has since passed from this world, for allowing me to use his glorious photograph as the inspiration for this painting.
