I titled this piece 'Somewhere' for two reasons. The first is that the view of the painting seems to be of a location - maybe out in space, maybe an imaginary special place. But we don't know the location of this view. We just know that it is spirit-filled, it is exciting, it has energy and lots of color. For me, even though there is a lot going on in the painting, it is a comfortable, recognizable place to be if I just new where this place is. I just know that it is somewhere. I created this piece at a time in my life where I am wanting to start anew, be working on something fresh and feel like I have a place and a reason and a purpose. The second reason I named this piece of art 'Somewhere' is that I am here somewhere among all these people, places and things. I don't get the sense that I am destined for fame when I find my purpose. I get the sense that I will still be me, one in 3 billion inhabitants of the earth and will just be 'somewhere' out there among everybody else. But the truth is, I am fine with that. I am very fine with that. My inspiration in creating this piece originally was from star gazing - wondering which twinkly lights were satellites and which were stars. It really doesn't matter to me since they both - they all - fill the sky with twinkling wonder. This painting started off as stars and well, like most of my paintings, quickly captured the surrounding energy and not just the night sky. To create this, I used several techniques and several painting tools and applied layer after layer of color, of light texture until I came to this point where I immediately knew that this was somewhere I had been before. Because of all the layers, the painting is on a heavy duty canvas. The sides are painted black and there is an application of UV-resistant satin varnish.
