Statement
Inspired by an interest in Buddhist philosophy, I explore the concept of “sacred pause”. Sacred pause is that moment in between thoughts that allows us to have an awareness of our reactions. This moment of pause is a chance to be present with our thoughts and creates a space in which we can examine our interpretations of the situation at hand. This topic is a continuation of my past work with schemas, where, when we confront a situation or experience any sort of interaction, our experiences and cultural influences take a front seat in the way we respond. Sacred pause breaks that pattern of response down.
Through geometric abstraction, the use of a limited palette, and hard-edge lines, I intend to create a space of reflection that allows for a moment of stillness and a moment to breathe. Each painting seeks to become a slowing down in which the viewers can become more aware of their mental habits. My work does not seek to tell a story or represent a subject. Instead, it invites presence — a direct encounter with the silent geometry of awareness itself: the stillness between automatic mental responses and conscious choice.
