Sigalit Landau, born in Jerusalem in 1969, often works with the Dead Sea as both material and metaphor. By immersing everyday objects in its mineral rich waters, she allows salt crystals to form naturally over time, transforming ordinary things into luminous relics of change and renewal.
In Relocation, a pair of high heeled shoes has been submerged until completely covered in glistening salt. The stilettos, symbols of movement, desire, and the pressures of modern femininity, are immobilized and made fragile. Their transformation evokes both beauty and loss, turning an object of fashion and social identity into one of stillness and reflection.
Through this quiet metamorphosis, Landau reveals how time and nature can alter meaning, preserving what was once transient and transforming it into a vision of peace and permanence.
