Ms. Payne has been teaching art in Montgomery County Public schools for over twenty years. Teaching art has been a great inspiration because it has allowed her to explore and experiment with a wide variety of materials and learn about many facets of art. Being around children has taught her to be spontaneous and intuitive when creating her own art. As a freelance artist she exhibits locally and has illustrated children's books for local authors as well.

Statement
I like to think that the painting process is a spritual journey of enlightenment and self refleciton. I start with fluid movement and organic lines, moving forward without inhibition. The vibrant colors and shapes seek balance and ethereal symbolic visions appear from beneath the surface fo the paint. The process is more intuitive as the imagery comes from inside out rather than from the outside in. I have learned that some Native American cultures believe that animals are guides that serve as messengers. They are with us through our lives helping us to gain insights and self awareness. Much like the animal spirit guides, my imagery emerges spontaneously as I paint. As each painting comes to completion I feel grounded and peaceful. The journey leads to self-awarenes, self-helaing and new perceptions.
