'Ochre' is my second painting in the Circles of Joy / Earth's Heart series, with which I pay homage to the primordial force of the Earth and its memory.
This work stems from a search for ochre stones in the mining area of Elba Island, sought after as one would seek a fragment of history. I crushed some of them into powder, repeating a gesture as old as humanity itself: the one used to obtain pigments for cave paintings.
Ochre contains matter, iron and time: shades ranging from golden yellow to red and warm brown, evidence of a thousand-year history engraved in the earth.
At the centre of the canvas, this living matter becomes a gestural nucleus. Around it, the rigour of the geometric composition of circles, the symbol of my artistic project, creates balance and order.
With “Ochre”, I wanted to transform a fragment of rock into emotion, to combine the archaic gesture with contemporary painting and to invite reflection on the link between man and the Earth, on the warmth and stability it holds. The painting will be delivered to its buyer together with a fragment of the stone that inspired it: a small tangible bridge between the earth and the work, between the past and the present.
