Laura McRae-Hitchcock

Taking inspiration from thin places and the sacred, I create paintings filled with peace, love, and healing.
MessageLaura McRae-Hitchcock lives and works in the Lowcountry of SC, where she is currently exploring the concept of Thin Places in her paintings. This idea, introduced to her in Ireland, is explained as a place where heaven and earth are so close one can feel an energy shift. She feels a more abstract approach is needed in order to create paintings that translate the feeling she gets when she is in a thin place. “My work moves between realism and abstract much as my life moves between the physical experience of being human and the wonder of remembering who I am as spirit. I believe art can be a portal, an exchange of energy and ideas that create a temporary shared space between the artist and the viewer. I think this is why people are drawn to art. Artists are inspired to create with insight, curiosity, and connection; in response, the viewer is moved to see and feel something in a new way. The painting itself becomes a Thin Place ”
She looks forward to continuing her focus on Thin Places during her residency in Ireland this summer.
Laura’s work has received numerous awards, and is found in collections across the US and abroad. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists and the South Carolina Chapter of NAWA.
