MessageStatement
Laura Gatto’s work is rooted in themes of introspection, transformation, and the interplay between nature and the self. Drawn to the alchemical magic of cyanotype, she embraces its marriage of precision and unpredictability, often layering encaustic techniques to create tactile, luminous surfaces that deepen the narrative of her pieces. Through experimental processes and unconventional materials—such as fabric, cardboard, and mixed media—she captures delicate layers of texture and light, infusing her work with a dreamlike quality.
Her Divine Feminine series envisions women as sirens morphing into butterflies, embodying themes of rebirth, resilience, and the fluidity of identity. Works like Eye Know and Their Contemplation invite viewers into a dialogue between perception and introspection, reflecting the complexities of the human experience. By blending representation and abstraction, Gatto’s art transcends literal interpretation, creating spaces for emotional and conceptual exploration.
The rich, ethereal blue tones of cyanotype resonate deeply with her focus on transformation and self-discovery, while the surrounding abstract textures and encaustic techniques evoke atmosphere and emotion. Each piece becomes a visual meditation, balancing the tangible and intangible, and offering viewers a poetic exploration of light, shadow, and the transient beauty of change.
Through her art, she seeks to spark dialogue, push boundaries, and create connections between personal and universal narratives. Her work is a testament to the power of process, inviting viewers to embrace spontaneity and find meaning in the interplay of abstraction and transformation.
