Enslaved Black women were sexually assaulted on the slave ship coming over from Africa during the Middle Passage to their arrival to United States and other countries. They had no voice on how their bodies were utilized and abused because they were considered chattel. I heard this young woman’s voice over and over in my head for a couple of months. I decided to give her a voice to relieve her pain since she never was able too. Mulatoo woman were sold in auctions to the highest bidder and called pretty girls. They were considered bed slaves. It’s a nasty piece of American history that went on for the last five hundred years.
