My recycled book sculptures are rooted in feelings of nostalgia, maternal heritage, and the legacy of craft. My fondest childhood memories are of hours spent with my mom, wandering through library aisles to bring home stacks of books–sacred tokens of shared curiosity and wonder. Even earlier memories, just as dear, are of playing beneath the canopy created by quilts suspended on quilting frames while my grandmother and her sisters gossiped and stitched the final details of these handmade family heirlooms.
As a woman, my work is a tribute to my foremothers—those who nurtured creativity and connection through craft and storytelling. My mobiles serve as a contemporary reflection on the importance of shared experiences, sustainable practices, and honoring the layered histories we carry within ourselves.
