Kristy Jahn, a Fort Wayne artist, tries to capture healing, creation & renewal in her unique, self taught style that she likes to call "Abstract Romanticism"
MessageKristy Jahn is a Fort Wayne-based abstract artist who began her journey at age six with private watercolor lessons from a local artist. Though largely self-taught, her commitment to continual learning has shaped her unique artistic voice.
Her work took a deeply personal turn following the stillbirth of her first child, leading her to explore abstract art as a means of emotional expression and healing. This profound experience guided her towards a softer, more liberating approach to abstraction, celebrating the essence of creation and renewal.
Kristy's work has been featured in various exhibitions and events, reflecting her dynamic artistic presence. Highlights include the 2023 “Friends of the River” muralist project, the 2019 PBS show "Art in Focus,". She had solo shows at Pranayoga in 2017 and 2014, and participated in notable group shows such as the 2014 Garrett Museum of Art’s 1960s show and several 2013 exhibitions including “BEcoming YOU” at Friendly Fox and “Summer Dreams” at Red Poppy Gallery.
Other exhibitions include the 2012 Bazart Holiday Show and the 2011 Satek Winery Art Show. She was also a finalist in the Etsy Headquarters/NASA Space Show in Brooklyn, New York, in 2011.
Kristy's art is a blend of personal narrative and artistic exploration, celebrating the journey of creation and giving back to the community through various charitable contributions.
Statement
My artwork is deeply inspired by celestial themes. I strive to capture the beauty and mystery of our expansive universe, from the first light of dawn to the vibrant hues of sunsets, the glittering glimpses of Heaven, the mesmerizing dance of auroras, and the ethereal spirit that weaves it all together. Each piece is like a love letter to the Creator and the magnificent celestial wonders that fill me with awe. While most would file my work under the Abstract Expressionism category, I'd like believe my work fits more under what I like to call the "Abstract Romanticism" style.
Witnessing the emotional reactions to my art has been incredibly moving. I've seen tears of joy and pain released through my work. One of my most memorable moments was seeing a little girl, around 2-3 years old, standing in awe of one of my pieces at an art show. Her reaction reminded me why I continue to create.
My hope is that my art stirs your spirit, ignites your curiosity & imagination about what the universe offers, and brings your soul peace.
May it awaken within you a sense of undeniable freedom and joy.
