At least according to this 1960s U.S. Department of Defense guide "In Time of Emergency: A Citizen's Handbook on Nuclear Attack & Natural Disasters." Proving yet again, reality is always stranger than fiction.
Part of what I love about this abstract statement piece is how it took on the look and feel of an aerial view of a city on its own accord, which seems rather appropriate.
