41×81” Cyanotype on silk and paper with assemblage layers, framed in a custom maple float frame.
The title of this piece is drawn from John O’Donohue’s poem In Praise of the Earth, where he writes of the earth as a keeper of dormant memory and potential, always holding space for renewal. Created for the exhibition Tending | Belonging, this large-scale cyanotype on silk and paper uses the garden as both metaphor and material to explore themes of loss, grief, resilience, and flourishing.
Layered through time and process, the work invites the viewer into a space of quiet reflection, a place where inner landscapes mirror natural ones. Just as the earth moves through cycles of decay and rebirth, we too must pass through seasons of dormancy and release in order to grow. Even in stillness, even in sorrow, the heart of the earth, and perhaps our own hearts, can hold out hope for spring’s return and the quiet emergence of new life.
