Kristen Abbott is a mixed media painter based in Boulder, Colorado, inspired by the region’s expansive landscapes and her own sense of quiet introspection. Her work blends intuitive exploration with joyful experimentation, incorporating an array of materials and techniques to create rich, textural abstractions.
Abbott often works with unconventional tools—brooms, scrapers, and kitchen utensils—to build dynamic layers and organic marks. In the warmer months, she also creates cyanotype pieces in collaboration with the Colorado sun, imprinting botanical forms onto natural fabrics like linen, cotton, and silk. This elemental process reflects her ongoing fascination with the tension between spontaneity and control, nature and stillness.
Her artwork has been featured in Luxe Interiors + Design, Boulder Lifestyle Magazine, 5280 Magazine, Boulder Weekly, and more. Her pieces are held in private collections nationwide as well as in permanent installations at hospitals and medical centers.
Abbott regularly collaborates with interior designers, art consultants, and galleries on projects ranging from custom residential placements to large-scale commercial installations. She brings a thoughtful, personable approach to each partnership—making her work an inspiring and adaptable fit across a variety of design environments.
