At first we noticed a few large birds silently gliding by overhead. Vultures, not remarkable in the desert. Within minutes there were dozens of them, all headed for one of the few trees on the horizon, roosting for the night. After a few squabbles for position, they settled down. This was the only time it happened in the 2 months we stayed there. The low light and silhouettes attracted my artist’s eye.
