This past year I lead the first protest in support of customary beach use in my area, and I spoke at the Senate at the
Florida state capital a couple of months ago of my experience at being legally confined to a small box on the beach. The protest and speaking were out of my comfort zone, but I had a strong pull to do it... just like painting this piece.
This piece represents the freedom of beach use for everyone. The fruit washing up on shore represents the possible fruit available to us. I've titled it "Sunshine." Representation of the sun, which we need as humans, the feeling we get when we take a moment to enjoy nature, and Florida's nick name "The Sunshine State.
