Kerry Shaw is a Photo-based Artist currently living in San Clemente, California.
With a conceptual approach, she absorbs remembrance into her daily practice with a focus on detailed and colorful aesthetics. In 2011, she lost her brother Stuart. This inspired a life-long devotion to creating epic imagery to meditate on and consolidate her loss as well as propel tributes to him into tangible visuals. Her translation of longing into allurement emerge as large scale, often mystically surreal, pigment prints. Her work explores the ever evolving, consequential, perpetual flow of nature and the elaborately beautiful. Often revolving around water.
Her background as a modern dancer and traditional painter is evident in her elegant, choreographic approach to complicated elements. Her seamless illustrations are made up of often hundreds of images and layers, painted into a distinctly effortless composition.
Kerry’s work was first published in Magenta Foundation’s Carte Blanche, book of 200 of Canada’s best photographers. She has since been included in the perpetual publication of Magenta’s Flash Forward, celebrating the best emerging photographers from Canada, USA and UK. Images from here acclaimed series “Water Brother” were most recently presented at the Affordable Art Fair New York and her latest series “Artifacts of Alchemy” debuted in the recent gallery launch of SOFIA, an all-female photo collective based out of Toronto.
