Painting in layered acrylics, I create soulful portraits of animals and wild places. Realism with reverence, shaped by a life lived close to nature.
MessageStatement
I paint in a realist style, with an emphasis on presence and emotional connection—the kind that emerges in still moments. These are animal portraits, yes, but also more than that. Each piece begins with a deep respect for the subject and a layered painting process designed to reveal not just appearance, but essence.
Working in professional-grade acrylics, I build each painting through slow, deliberate glazes. My technique allows for clarity and fine detail while preserving a sense of breath and movement in fur, feathers, and light. I keep backgrounds understated, creating space for intimacy. The goal is to let the subject lead—whether it’s a lion, an owl, or a wild horse—so the viewer can meet them eye to eye.
Each portrait may begin with a single reference photo, but I often study dozens more to refine structure, expression, and mood—blending sources to capture both accuracy and soul.
Ultimately, I aim to create portraits that hold presence—pieces that invite the viewer to slow down and feel something lasting. Whether the work is large or small, my process is careful, layered, and rooted in reverence for wildlife and wild places.
